· Main Game

NationZero is a persistent, browser-based multiplayer strategy game about politics, economics and war. Players don’t control countries. Each player controls one character living in a shared world that keeps running between sessions. The world is built on real countries, provinces and municipalities. A character follows one of three careers: Political: stand in elections for municipal, provincial and national councils, or run for mayor, governor or president. Office holders propose and vote on laws, set taxes and budgets, and appoint ministers. Industrial: found a company, build facilities, hire workers, and trade goods on a shared market. Military: lead a squad, join regiments and corps, and fight battles over municipalities. The careers depend on each other. Politicians control laws, budgets and declarations of war. Industrialists control production and capital. The military controls organized force. Most goals need cooperation from players in the other careers. The world changes through its systems rather than scripted events. Elections fill offices, market orders set prices, and a captured municipality changes hands immediately along with its local government. Seasons end with a victory condition, such as completing a national project or holding an enemy capital. The game is free to play in the browser, on desktop or phone.

Story

Every nation starts from zero.

A new era has opened and the race is on. Whichever nation first completes Project Victory, an orbital cannon that puts the sky itself under its control, will set the terms for everyone else. Each country has the plans. None of them can build it alone.

You are not a king or a general handed an army. You are one citizen, with a home town, a passport and an ambition. The power to build the cannon is split between people like you:

Politicians win elections, write the laws, set the taxes and decide where the country’s money goes. Only they can declare war, and only they can make peace.

Industrialists own the mines, factories and production lines. Ore becomes steel, steel becomes parts, and parts become the stages of the cannon. Without them the project is a drawing.

The military guards the towns that hold the deposits and the roads, and takes the ones the project needs. A country that cannot defend its land loses what it built on it.

The country next door is racing for the same prize. Its councils are voting, its factories are running and its regiments are drilling. Towns will change hands, alliances will form and break, and someone will be betrayed over a contract or a vote.

When one nation finishes the cannon, the season ends and its citizens win. Then the borders reset, and every nation starts from zero again.
